California here we come...

It's been forever since I've written in livejournal. I'm a little sad that no one adds comments to any of my entries:(. *sniff sniff*. Anyhow... I leave for CA in a few days. My mom and grandma have decided to come with me, since I technically don't have a place to stay until sunday. We're all going to stay in Long Beach. I've never been to California at all, so i'm a little scared and stremely excited. For the remainder of the summer, I'll be staying in a frat house, hehe. That should be interesting. I'm working at a couple of production companies and hopefully going to find a job since both internships are non-paid. Maybe bartending 101 will pay off.

I do miss Princeton already. This year was the first year that I stayed for reunions. Although I was working the whole time, it was a lot of fun and I definitely needed the money. Reunions was like a huge party every night under a tent with tons of beer. I think everyone was pretty much trashed each night, haha. I got to play a role in making the class of '53 get a 'lil drunk, as I was their bartender and they kept ordering straight liquor. I served Prof. Nash a diet coke on my last day of work at the grad. college. I was the only that had recognized him...but that's b/c I recently had watched A Beautiful Mind and they had showed an interview with him at the end of the movie.

What else? ...My grandma fell down last week and we went to the hospital to see her. Luckily, nothing was broken or fractured and she was just a little bit sore the next day. Thank God. My cousin was suggesting that we put her in assisted living, but my mom, uncle and I are against that. As my mom told my cousin, in mexican culture we just don't do that. My grandma would rather just die than go into assisted living or a nursing home.

pretty funny

I think this little article my roomie's best friend wrote is pretty funny, although some of the other members of Raks didn't. If I can laugh about it...and the last part is about me, then they should be able to laugh, right? haha. Yes, my top almost came off on stage...

Odalisque Rocks

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were the performance dates for Raks Odalisque's fourth annual spring dance show. Princeton's only Middle
Eastern dance troupe, which began as a weekly belly dancing class at Dillon Gym, was founded in 2000. One of its early performances occurred in
2000 at the Near Eastern Studies Arabic banquet, in a small room on the second floor of Jones Hall, where the three dancers who performed were
energetically pursued by an enthusiastic Syrian graduate student.

Raks Odalisque has come a long way in four years, and now boasts a membership of twenty-odd dancers. It also has some hangers-on, namely
other dance groups trying to capitalize on the exposure bought by . . . well, midriff exposure. At the Raks Odalisque performance on Friday night, two
guest groups performed — Naacho, a South Asian group, whose members danced to an intentionally cheesy number inspired by India's Bollywood
movies, and Flamenco Puro, a Spanish dance troupe, in their full heel-stomping, shawl-twitching glory.

A Raks Odalisque performance is equal parts dance recital and fashion show. The dancers appeared in new costumes for each number, bringing
to mind Elizabeth Taylor's sartorial switcharoo in Cleopatra. The typical Raks Odalisque outfit consisted of a low-slung skirt or harem pants, paired
with a sparkly, sequined bra top.

"I wish my girlfriend would buy one of those," a voice behind me said.

 "What girlfriend?" Another voice replied.

Raks Odalisque applied some contemporary touches to a traditional medium, transforming Justin Timberlake's song "What You Got" into a rousing
belly dancing number. In a move that would have been fitting given the recent misbehavior of the artist — Mr. Timberlake was Janet Jackson's
accomplice in the Super Bowl breast fiasco — one of the dancers' sequined tops almost popped off during the Saturday performance.

"It was hanging on by a string. If it had come off, it would have been disastrous." she later said about the incident.

"I think everyone would have loved it," her roommate said.

"I wouldn't have loved it," the dancer's boyfriend grumbled.

So...i just wrote this long journal entry, submitted it, and was greeted with the lovely page that says the pc can't detect network settings. so all my words were lost, but i won't let that kill my mood, because I am excited about bartending 101!...mostly because of the people that i'm taking the class left. We have the lovely Tridelta girls: Evie, Ali, Megan and Diana and my disi-pal Garette. It's going to be out of control. I can't wait! Apparently we get to taste everything we make too. I'll finally know the names of drinks and how to make them. YAY!!

Busy, busy week for the first week after spring break. Apparently I'm a little overcommitted as far as the extracurriculars are concerned. I love belly dancing don't get me wrong, but I just didn't know I'd be doing so much of it this week, haha. I found out that I'm in at least 12 dances in the show at Colonial Friday, plus we are guest performing at the BAC show and in addition to that I'm belly dancing in a sr. thesis production. Hmm..yeah...really should start that JP sometime.

Another exciting event! My friend from high school is coming here to visit for the first time tomorrow. i can't wait to show her around.Ít's going to be so much fun...and hopefully another exciting thing will happen saturday, but i won't mention it yet because I always seem to jinx myself.

Kiss me, I'm part Irish.x00x. I just got back from the mall with my niece. I bough a cute green care bears shirt from Gadzooks. I <3 it! I actually celebrated St. Patty's day on saturday, because in my state, we have the St. Patty's loop, which includes a bunch of bars and a shuttle that takes us between each of the bars. It was so much fun. I went out with my boyfriend and his brother and her girlfriend and a couple other friends. I got to shake my booty on the dance floor a little bit, so I was content. No green beer though...maybe i'll make up for that tonight;)
I can't believe this weather. I really think I need to move to CA after Princeton. I can't wait til' it's warm enough to hit the beach. This gloomy weather just makes me sleepy and unproductive, heh.

It's nice to have a little time to relax now. Evie and I were up late last night studying in the Delta study room and laughing about top-down processes, versus those darn Mac AIM bubbles which activate bottom-up pathways.lol. I'm mostly done midterms now. I have one lab test for psy259, but Evie said it wasn't bad. Finals will be a lot crazier, as I'll have lots of lengthy papers due.
So i finally switched Psy advisors! Thank goodness. I really wanted to switch advisors because there was no room in my previous advisor's neuro lab for me. I'm really excited about working with Prof. O. He's new and he's nice and very helpful ...and excited about doing an fMRI experiments. This actually might be fun....hah. Too bad I just realized that it's due in like a month and I'm just getting started.
As far as spring break goes...I'm hoping that my roomie and I will pull another last minute vacation like intersession, but I don't think it's gonna happen. I'll be around most likely.I'm going to scan some of the pics from Vegas soon though. They're pretty funny.

NAP TIME......and then laundry time/cleaning.

Darn it...i just remembered I have a prob set due Friday................

Wow...my very first entry on livejournal and I have Evie to thank for that:) I'm excited and I think I'm a little bit crazy for being on here right now at the beginning of midterm week, when I have so much work to do. So you've already learned something about me, I'm a major procrastinator! I have a cognitive neuroscience midterm on wednesday (Evie feels my pain) and I've only read maybe 2 chapters in the book. Not to mention the book I have to read for tomorrow that I haven't started, but enough complaining. If I'm on here, i'm gonna have some fun.
Have you ever seen the OC? I love that show and it's my current favorite! I just got finished watching last weeks episode a few hours ago. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
Hmmm. So this past week was very exciting for me. I had 4 shows with Raks Odalisque, the belly dancing troupe here at my school. I absolutely love it...and i miss it already. Rehearsals for other events will begin soon after spring break though.
Speaking of spring break...I'm probably just going to stay around here or head home and hang out with friends. It would be fun to go into the city as well...I love NY<3
Alright...that's enough for me...for now. But i'll be back i'm sure...when i'm in need of more procrastinating!
